After you've soaked it a while in a warm salt bath, get some cotton and get a small bit, about the size of a pencil eraser, and gently stuff it under the corner of the bad nail. It will lift it off the infected tissue, relieve the pressure and allow it to start to heal.
Also, when you cut your nails, make SURE to cut straight across. You may also want to look into getting or buying wide width shoes from now on to help give your toes more room.
Also, using Neosporin is better than the rubbing alcohol. If you haven't got any, get some.
If none of this helps, you'll have to **** it up and go see a dr.

well i have had my ingrown toenail removed before, and i do recall that for about 2weeks after it you have to wear this big plaster arround your toe to stop infections, also the doctor will but 'silver' on your toe as it helps it grow faster. the big plaster on your toe makes it difficult to wear shoes, i remember i had work the next few days and thankfully it was the summer, in which i wore flipflops. i got this done in july, and it is now january, it is back to its normal length again, although its not interally better, its still sore. hope it goes well for u!

You cannot just give a dog pills. Even if your doctor says a certain NSAID is ok for dogs, they have to be given a specific dose based on their weight or their livers and/or kidneys could be harmed.

I assume that a nail has made a complete trip back in toward the leg and is digging into the skin. That can happen if it was damaged, is growing at a strange angle or was somehow missed when the nails were trimmed.

Now, as for the pain, demand an appointment today. If the receptionist won't get you in, ask to speak to the office manager. If they still won't see you, go somewhere else.

Now if it is your schedule that is the problem, most vets allow you to drop the pet off early in the morning and pick it up later in the day. Get assurances that they will keep in phone contact with you before they do anything. They can give the dog something for pain before they cut the nail if you ask them to.

If money is the problem, ask them if they will hold a check for a few days.

You can't treat it your self you are not a doctor. Call your child's pediatrician before it gets worse.

I don't suggest wasting your money on a doctors appointment.
if its coloured, you might've bruised it (when I say colour, I don't just mean purple, blue, or black. bruises can be brown, tan, or anything slightly darker than your skin colour) & if you can't see under your toenail, then Idk :/

I also do not suggest touching it, ever. because the more its poked/touched, the bigger it will swell.

do not cut the toenail until the pain has gone away. it will be SO painful, & you will definately regret it.

cut it out yourself. I have done this before and needless to say, it ***** but you will feel a whole lot better once you have cut it out. Just take some sharp scissors and cut down the edge of your toenail then rip it out. There will be alot of blood so make sure you put an old towel down where you're going to be doing it.

EDIT: Wow, I never soaked mine in water when I did it. now that I think back on it I should have done that. I think that you should listen to those 2 ladies.

or file Never dig it out. Never cut into the corners, that's how you get ingrown toe nails. If you have any toe nail left, cut out a "v" in the center of the free edge then put cotton underneath the sides of the "v". That will release the pressure at the sides of your toenail until it can heal. If you already have an infection then keep your feet dry, wear white socks, soak in epsom salts and watch for red streaks because this can be blood poisoning and you'll need to see your Dr. Always cut your nails straight across.

I know that an injury towards the cuticle of the nail area takes about 9 months to grow all the way out on your big toe. As far as an ingrown nail, it has to be treated or partially removed before the healing starts. You will feel much better within a day or two, but still takes longer to heal correctly. Warm soaks in saltwater will help ease the pain and heal it faster. Tea Tree Oil is helpful too. It will act as a soothing antiseptic and keeps fungus under control. There is no reason that you cannot go out on Saturday. If you have plans for the dance floor, wear cotton socks and comfortable shoes. Put your feet up to recuperate on Sunday. After you are completely healed, you may want to take bimonthly trips to a nail technician for a pedicure. This will keep you out of the podiatrist office.
