Injured toenail falling off?

Redskins fan asked:
I smashed my foot on a stair about 3 weeks ago and last night I noticed that the nail on my last toe was white and very close to falling off. There’s no pain. Until the nail falls off, should I cover it with a bandaid or something? And when it falls off, how do I prevent it from becoming infected? Thanks in advance.

Just wear clean socks every day. Your body should take care of it. You’d already have an infection, probably, if that were going to happen. You can always put an antibiotic ointment on it if it starts to get sore.

AHAHAHAHAHA
this happend to me last year.
i was swimming so all the water pressure just made it fly off. i dont have it, but i hope they got it out of that pool haha
well, just leave it alone but it bothered me when i wore socks and shoes, but it helped when i skipped the socks, and i dont think u should put a band aid, cuz for me it HURT LIKE HELL especially when i had to take it off. yeah it kept it in place but it HURT.
oh and when it falls off, theres nothing to get infected, its just normal skin under it. trust me, i still dont have a toe nail. i can poke at it all day, its just normal skin
