What could cause a toenail to fall off without any obvious reason?

Toots asked:
No trauma,no meds, except for Chantix last year.
Middle toe is halfway off, still attached on one side, not painful at all.

I have been researching about how nails fall off, found out there are many reasons why your nails can fall off, such as infections of some sort and etc.
But the most likely unlikely way on how your nail could fall off is actually through active exercises which strains your feet (particularly the toes). Such as constant running due to sports. Do you always play soccer, or football, or even basketball? These could strain your toes so much that it could actually bruise the nail bed due to excessive pressure between the nail and the nailbed.
The bruise could eventually lead to a dead nail, thus causing its own removal…
But im just assuming ok, since i dont know much about how your nail removed, check out what it looks like or how to treat it at the bottom, if you think i might be right….
cheers, and good luck with your toe, i’m suffering much worse than you are. hahaha
